Title: “Straight-up Chillin’ Out for 20 Minutes a Day Will Make Your Brain Better. Here’s How.”
In the past, the benefits of meditation were merely speculations. Today, elite athletes and some of the world’s most powerful people are singing its praises. Oh, and there’s scientific evidence proving its benefits as well. So why should YOU start meditating? Well for one, it’s free, AND it only takes about 20 minutes a day. Here are 5 reasons why you may want to start including meditation in your daily routine:
Starting your day with meditation helps to fight off anything that may be bothering you (this means before you read your emails, check your messages, etc). This will decrease the levels of the stress hormone Cortisol and your days will seem to breeze by.
You May Lose Weight
By just setting aside 20-30 minutes a day, meditation may reduce stress, which as a result prevents emotional eating. This will bring mindfulness into the equation; that way you can rationally assess how you are feeling. Are you actually hungry, or just bored? You can then, in turn, make your choices accordingly.
Taking a few minutes to detach from the distractions of life allows us to fight fatigue. Disconnecting from the stimulation of life by closing our eyes and taking some deep breaths results in us feeling less rushed, more in control and reenergized.
Improves Sleep Quality
Practicing relaxation techniques during the day can definitely help with your quality of sleep at night. You will find yourself falling asleep faster, staying asleep longer and you will wake up feeling more rested overall.
Meditation increases the body’s ability to ward off illness and infection. Taking the extra time for relaxation will help build up the body’s defense.
Now those seem like some pretty legit reasons to start meditating to us. You exercise to benefit the rest of your body, so why not start meditating to exercise your brain? Process those thoughts, and then let them go. Give it a try and let us know how it goes!
